Inter-House STEM Quiz

This year’s STEM House competition has been organised by Miss Tame.  It will be taking place over 3 lunchtimes and will have junior, intermediate and senior levels.

For each level, there will be 5 rounds of 10 questions - Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Technology.

Students will compete in teams and scores will be collated to give an overall House winner.

The competition will take place in SC6 on the following days:
  • Wednesday 20th March – Junior – 4 students from each house (2 from year 7 and 2 from year 8)
  • Thursday 21st March – Senior – 4 students from each house (2 from year 12 and 2 from year 13)
  • Friday 22nd March – Intermediate – 3 students from each house (1 each from year 9, 10 and 11)
The students representing the House at lunchtime today are:
  • Year 7 - Karanjot Chhatwal & James Town
  • Year 8 - Morgan Fifield & Connor Weeden
Good luck, boys.

House Points @ 20th March

As of 09.40 today, here's where we're up to with House Points:
  1. Stevenson  -  11414 (20.2%)
  2. Telford  -  11376 (20.1%)
  3. Darwin  -  11317 (20.0%)
  4. Brunel  -  11186 (19.8%)
  5. Newton  -  11181 (19.8)
In our assembly on Monday I was pleased that we were able to tell you that we'd climbed from fifth to second position, so to now see that we're leading the way is brilliant.  As we've said before, though, we can't afford to be complacent - the other Houses aren't that far behind us.  So, please keep up the good work that's put us in this fantastic position.  The challenge now is to stay there!

Excellent work everyone - well done.

Y10 & 11 Inter-House Football

The combined year 10 & 11 competition will begin on Friday lunchtime. We’ve had to spread the tournament over three weeks to accommodate Engineering Diploma commitments on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which means the order of play is:

Friday 22nd March – 1.00pm    B v D  &  S v T

Monday 25th – 1.00pm    D v N  &  B v T
Tuesday 26th – 1.00pm    B v N  &  D v S

Tuesday 16th April – 1.00pm    N v S  &  D v T
Wednesday 17th – 1.00pm    N v T  &  B v S

Boys - please note:

1. Mr Jackson has asked that you eat lunch at break time or before matches to avoid late arrival to P5. However, we still need to get started ASAP (by 1.10pm at the very latest) to ensure sufficient game time. You often moan if we’re unable to play 2 x 10-15 minutes halves, but delayed starts are almost always due to many of you queuing for food in the canteen before matches, so please remember to eat – or buy food to eat later – at break time because we must be off the field by 1.30pm.

2. You need to make a note of fixtures in your planners to avoid delays or cancellations due to forgotten kit, etc.

Please see me if you have any queries.

The results on Wednesday 06th March were:
  • Darwin 1-1 Newton
  • Brunel 1-2 Telford
The results on Thursday 07th March were:
  • Brunel 3-1 Newton
  • Darwin 1-0 Stevenson
The competition will conclude this week (weather permitting!) as follows:
  • Tuesday 12th - Newton v Stevenson / Darwin v Telford
  • Wednesday 13th - Newton v Telford / Brunel v Stevenson
Boys:  Remember that on the days you're playing you need to eat your lunch at break time or before matches.  You will not have time to eat afterwards because there isn't enough time for you to get changed and eat before period 5.

Good luck, boys.  Let's see if we can pick ourselves up form the disappointment of losing to Darwin last Thursday.  We should've won that game easily, but Darwin were simply better organised than we were.  Something to learn from for our two remaining matches, eh?
