House Charity 2012/13

So far this year we have raised £474.30.  As mentioned in our assembly yesterday, if we deduct the money raised from cake sales at recent open evenings, each student has donated 13 pence in the twelve weeks since September.  Is this really the best we can do?  Please give this some thought.

Both Newton and Telford have really hit the ground running on the fundraising front.  I hope we can make some progress in catching them up as we approach Christmas and in the new year too, especially as the sole focus of our efforts this academic year is to honour the memory of Mr White.

Thank you - Mr Jarrett

House Charity 2012/13

First, apologies for the delay in keeping you posted on where we're up to with this.  At close on Friday 09th November, our fundraising total was £191.74.  That's pretty impressive, but Telford have now raised around £500.00 so we need to really up our game if we're going to stand any chance of beating or getting anywhere near their end-of-year total.

With this in mind, please come and see me if you have any fundraising ideas.  Apart from Seun Osho baking and selling cakes at open evenings, the only suggestions I've received to date have come from 9S.

House Charity 2012/13

Our charity total as of last Friday (19th October) = £89.76.  Thanks everyone.  Please give generously every week so that we can raise as much as possible to help EllenorLions Hospices.

Remember: If every student donates 20 pence per week (that's just £7.60 per person for the year in total), we can raise in the region of £1300 by July 2013.  This, coupled with stand-alone fund-raising activities such as sponsored runs and cake sales, etc., means that an overall total of £2000 is definitely achievable for us.

So far you have raised a total of £65.39Please remember to give generously every week (usually form time on Fridays), and do let me, Dan or Tom know of any ideas you have to help raise as much as we can this year for EllenorLions.  Every penny counts so please dig deep.

Year 7 Inter-House Rugby

It was another great effort last Friday and there was certainly plenty of determination on display, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to get the win the boys so thoroughly deserve.  The final result was Newton (42) Stevenson (0).

Our final game is today against Brunel, so let's hope the team can finish the tournament on a high note.  Once again, I'd like to thank them for their willingness to represent the House and great commitment.  Some of the more senior students in the House would do well to take note of this.

Year 7 Inter-House Rugby

Despite losing 21-0 to Telford today in their opening match, the year 7 team showed great effort and determination right up until the final whistle.  I'm sure better results will follow if they apply themselves as well in their remaining three matches (see below).  Thanks to the House Captain, Dan Boucher, for coaching the team.

Year 9 and 10 (Intermediate) Inter-House Rugby

Congratulations to our team who were crowned champions on Friday.  This, coupled with the year 8 team winning their tournament in September, has meant that it's been a great start to the year for the House on the sporting front.  Stevenson were the only House that fielded a team for every match, which meant that we won despite only having played two out of four games (won 1, lost 1).

Those who participated are:

Year 9
  • Mikey Eferakorho
  • Peter Farmer
  • Lewis Gunyon
  • Owen Grover
  • Alex Smith
  • Lawrie Williams
Year 10
  • Sam Boorer
  • Matt Husband
  • Kieran McLaughlin
  • Tharun Thayaparan
Congratulations boys and well done for setting such a great example to other students about the importance of commitment and keeping your word.  Come wind, rain or sun-shine you were always keen and ready to play on-time, every time.  I must also say a massive 'thank you' to Mr Chidlow for brilliantly organising yet again.

The year 7 competition starts on Tuesday 09th October, so let's hope we can make it three in a row!

House Charity 2012/13

As you know, Mr White passed away recently. He was an extremely well respected and valued member of staff who had worked at WGSB for over thirty years. Needless to say he is greatly missed by staff and students alike, both past and present.

Every year each of the five House at WGSB support different charities. This year, however, all five Houses are supporting EllenorLions Hospices in memory of – and out of respect for – Mr White and his family.

To date this year we have raised £53.76. Here's the breakdown:

• 7S - £8.76
• 8S - £7.91
• 9S - £8.88
• 10S - £8.76
• 11S - £3.73
• 6S1 - £8.56
• 6S2 - £7.16

If you're unaware of EllenorLions Hospices and/or would like to know more about the invaluable work they do locally, the following YouTube clip will be of interest:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-thnpEEAKfg&feature=relmfu

Please remember to give a small donation every week during form time. You really CAN make a difference. There are 175 students in Stevenson House. Based on a 38 week school year, if each student donates 20 pence every week we will have raised £1330 by July 2013. Food for thought, eh?

Year 9 and 10 (Intermediate) Inter-House Rugby

Once again, well done to the team today in the re-scheduled match -v- Newton.  A 19-19 draw was a great result against such a strong team.  Our final match tomorrow against Brunel is arguably the hardest of the tournament and will be a real test for the team, so best of luck boys.

Mr Jarrett

Monday 1 October 2012

Year 9 and 10 (Intermediate) Inter-House Rugby

Well done to the team for being out and ready to play on-time on Friday.  Unfortunately, our opponents (Darwin) only fielded 2 players so we won the match by default (walkover).

Please be as prompt and committed today (-v- Newton) and tomorrow
(-v- Brunel).  Good luck, boys.

Mr Jarrett
